Blog Thoughts

I've always found the almost complete unpredictability of blog responses highly interesting. Why do some blogs create a torrent of response while others get put in the corner of solitude. The theories of why are obvious. Some blogs are almost incomprehensible or cover subjects with highly limited appeal. Some blogs stray too close to the subject of other recent blogs and so members may avoid it based on its redundancy. While blogs written by members with many past opponents usually draw good response, that isn't always the case and some very good blogs are ignored perhaps because they've come too soon after another blog by that member. And some blogs are so wordy or so lengthy that its just too time consuming to read.

Members who rarely blog should have reason to expect some attention if they've written anything of popular interest. I can only suppose that most writers look for some response to their subject of choice. If no one ever responded, why would anyone blog? Some of us respond only to friends while others will respond to anyone if the blog inspires a response. While expressed thoughts do become common knowledge, does anyone really think that knowledge could be used maliciously?

Some blogs are a hit, some are a miss. Why do so few ever respond? I'd estimate that less than 10% of total membership respond to more than 1 blog per year. Is it because they don't want their name associated with that particular blog subject or that blog writer? Is it because they'd rather keep their thoughts private or shared only with a few or is it because most members have no interest in blogs.

Reasons For Being

It is amazing the many reasons members have for being here. Some are open to whatever match they can get while others who may have no problem finding match opponents are only looking for something specific and their profile usually says so.
But whatever the reason we come here, be it competition or to make youthful fantasies come alive, it's all good. We do what we can with whom we can, when we can.

What's New

Here we are still in the midst of a pandemic that too many have gotten tired of fearing because it hasn't affected them yet. But what is new is that the virus mutated and is now more contagious than it was six months ago. New estimates show that half of those infected were never exposed to anyone with symptoms. And the average age of those infected with serious symptoms has dropped by 15 years. It's not an old man's disease.

Guys are tired of worrying about it because they still haven't gotten sick. In an attempt to stabilize the economy, certain people high in government say that everything is under control, but fatalities continue, killing many people who no doubt also thought there was nothing to fear but fear itself. Some think increased testing has made the numbers unreliable. The number of fatalities is not dependent on testing.

Some are tired of waiting for the danger to pass and are willing to risk their own life and the lives of others in order to maintain their hobby. Some think it's safe to come in physical contact with others when that's about the least safe thing you can do now.

In Florida, there were 1213 fatalities in April, 1146 in May, 1090 in June and almost 1000 in the first two weeks of July. Florida classifies many of its Covid patients as pneumonia patients.

In Arizona, there were 301 fatalities in April, 555 in May, 747 in June and another 800 in the first two weeks of July.

In the UK, fatalities have been at least cut in half every month since April. April fatalities were just under 25,000. May fatalities were under 11,000. June fatalities were under 5,000. While the first two weeks of July had just over 1000 fatalities in the UK.

Some might be tired of worrying about it but the danger hasn't gone anywhere. Everyone sees video of people on the beach, partying, ignoring social distance and going without masks. They're having a great time. But how do those people feel the next day? You don't know.

Some say they're not going to let a fear of dying keep them from living. That sounds good. But this isn't about groundless fear. It's about high-risk, reckless behavior that contributes to the virus spread in the most infected country in the world. In simple terms, everyone is doing one of two things, you're either fighting the virus or you're submitting to the virus. Others will counter that you're either fighting the fear or you're submitting to the fear. The difference is that the fear can't kill you but the virus can.
