Just yesterday was told over at the hospital it's OK to wrestle. The problem right now is finding guys willing to meet up with me. Don't know why – maybe the DC area is deader in this respect than even I had thought so in the past
September 27 update: Composite score for six upper-body dumbbell/barbell exercises – as a percent of pre-chopping: 9/17 was 40.4 – 9/26 was 63.7 – So I'm coming along just fine. Hoping to be over 70 by Sunday or Monday. Recent wrestling the other day went well – Gonna be kicking ass right soon :)
You local guys acting (or whatever) like you're are afraid (or whatever excuse) not to take me on – bene note, take me on now before I'm back to 100-plus :) :) :) Why not spend less time signed in hour after hour, day after day looking and not finding, when you could be meeting up with someone?
Tonight (9/29), that composite percentage leaped to 79.1 percent. WOO HOO – maybe be kicking butt (or getting mine kicked) seriously sooner than everyone thinks. Was supposed to wrestle a newbie here late afternoon or early evening yesterday (9/28); but no-showed. (I currently have a blog entry about no shows.)
"Captain's Log, Supplemental" as we head so many times in Star Trek days----In 3 words "Am bored stiff," during this recovery period. Please keep in mind I am not totally out of action here. Still can go light, give/take the gutpunching (Still doing over 1,000 ab crunches a day per blog entry), knee and foot work, some gi work, helping newbies get started – here in my matroom in Arlington, Virginia – a 20 minute walk from the East Falls Church Metro station (meet you there and show you the way via the trail system here).
Can still help guys learn how to toughen up and some wrestling holds not involving stress to that area. Hosted my newest protégé/trainee today (Maryland PB) Easy at first; but he'll probably be ready to get rough at about the same time I'm cleared to kick butt :) Today is marks the 967th consecutive day of significant exercise – shooting for 1,000 and beyond
Wow, missed this one it appears – sorry for not getting back to you right away. But I couldn't simply host 'n' watch---I would want to hop into the fray regardless, and probably (foolishly) really injure myself. Never could be a mere spectator of any sport. Thanks for your offer.
Recovery proceeding well; and am doing light action, as well as mentoring/coaching guys willing to 'baby' the affected area. Really need action as healing proceeds.
NOTE: Any serious competitive wrestling/grappling on hold for possibly at least three months following removal of big carcinoma and adjoining lymph nodes, etc. in & near left armpit.. Will continue signing in to site to check for messages and updates of what's happening on the site.
Will need/want lots of action when back in full action to make up for lost time. Likely to be up for training (learning./teaching), strengthening light action possibly within a month.
UPDATE: 8/25/2018---Had surgery 8/20 Chop Doc said depending on recovery outcome, serious wrestling, mma, etc could be embargoed anywhere from a couple months to a full year. Light and/or playful action could come sooner.
Kudos to the great folks at Virginia Hospital Center - Arlington for their great and friendly care, and well wishes for me to get back into wrestling/mma/etc as soon as medically feasible. Looking forward to see what their sport physical therapy folks can do for me.
Bene note: Despite this, I have not missed a single day of exercise and aiming for the 1,000 consecutive-days goal. I will make a come back stronger than ever; so keep me in mind as a viable opponent to take on. Cheers. :)
Spruce, I'm glad to hear that your spirits are up. I haven't seen you online in a while in spite of looking for you. I too would be willing to come up and wrestle an appropriate opponent if you wanted to watch or referee it.
Stay in touch, I always enjoy conversing with you, and may you have a speedy recovery.
Spirits aren't exactly down in the Mariana Trench – nor are they soaring atop Mt. Everest either. If you are in the neighborhood, be glad to host you once the drainage tube arrays are removed. As to watching others wrestle, I'd probably want to hop into the foray come hell or high water and end up undoing the healing
Good point. I know you well enough to know that you are probably right about hopping into the foray.
Stay in touch and let me know when the time is right for our next meeting. We can both throttle it back some to keep from harming each other while lifting our spirits.
It didn't stop me from hosting a guy Labor Day to show him some toughening of the abs-back-glutes, neck, routines--- and how to save time by simultaneous multi tasking of exercises ---bringing the old saying "If you can't do it, teach it" saying to mind :)
