Are you talking in a single set, or in some fixed period of time between waking and leaving for work? Also, what range of motion (ROM makes a huge difference when comparing rep counts). For example, I use the CrossFit standard for pushups: full contact with the floor (if I lifted my hands, I'd get no closer to the floor), and full extension of the elbows at the top.
With that standard, I can get 42 in a single set, last time I checked... I can get 200 in about three minutes.
I ask because, if you're doing them within a few minutes, that's really awesome. If you're doing them in a single set with a full range of motion, I think you might be a world record holder.
Good points, for me I do them with hands more at my sides. Its harder, and to me works the muscles better. Also, I go down hold for four seconds and come up. Gives the pecs a better workout.
Actually a guy who works out with a trainer told me about the push ups. Also, the body weight aspect of it. The man who told me is solid as a rock and his pecs are fine. Where are you getting your info? Any form of push up is good for the pecs.
Sorry, I wasn't saying pushups aren't good for you pecs, I was saying you pecs don't get any extra work which results in increased strength by hanging out at the bottom of the pushup.
The pec's job is to pull the humerus a couple degrees into the ventral side of the coronal plane of the body; after that they're out of leverage.
My info comes from anatomy and physiology classes and a decade of professional strength and conditioning coaching. I was just trying to share some factual training stuff with you. :-)
You are welcome to keep hanging out in the bottom of the pushup; it is changing the stimulus from a standard pushup; just not in the way you think, is all.

Your pecs are contracted at the top of the pushup, not the bottom. They're getting an active stretch at the bottom, but not strengthening.

21/12/2016 19:38I did them in 3 sets up to 150 and today did four sets of 41 41 41 and 42, I would say within a 15 min time spand. Remember I am 60 lol
